Alison Shih

Safer Communities Managing Director

Alison Shih is the Safer Communities Managing Director, a project of GovAct.

Alison has over a decade of experience as a public safety expert and advocate working on the state and local levels. Prior to joining GovAct, Alison served as Senior Counsel at Everytown for Gun Safety, where she guided innovative gun violence prevention legislative campaigns and supported policy implementation efforts in jurisdictions across the country. Alison previously served as a Program Manager at the Vera Institute of Justice, where she led state and local pretrial reform efforts focused on reducing reliance on pretrial detention and supporting public safety. Earlier in her career, she served as a public defender at the Legal Aid Society in New York City. Alison holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from Rollins College, an M.A. in Health Education from Columbia University Teachers College, and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.
